Will Heggie

Will Heggie (a.k.a. “Bill”) was a childhood friend of Robin Guthrie and a founding member of Cocteau Twins. He and Robin had been members of another local Grangemouth, Scotland, band called The Heat. They eventually released a single entitled “My Part of Town” in 1980 under the name The Liberators.

Will co-wrote and performed on the band’s first LP, Garlands (1982), as well as two subsequent EPs, Lullabies (1982) and Peppermint Pig (1983). There are different narratives on why he left, but the fact is Will parted ways with Cocteau Twins in 1983 and eventually co-formed the very influential and beloved Scottish band Lowlife. He remains friends with his former bandmates, and Robin’s brother, Brian, who was Lowlife’s band manager.
